I was very impressed with the military’s initiative towards using renewable energy sources. When I first read the title of the article, I did not think that it would be revolved around the military, however I quickly found that after the first sentence that it was the case. Solar technology has been becoming increasingly popular in the past few years, and investing in solar energy has proven to be beneficial both environmentally and economically.I personally always thought switching to greener energy in America was a major priority, so it pleases me to know that our armed forces are taking advantage of the new technology, while at the same time, reducing human impact on the environment. I feel that this type of energy has great potential in the future it it is properly utilized. The economy could also benefit, and maybe improve for once, if the US invests more in the usage of solar and natural gas energy. They’re more expensive than fossil fuels and oil, but they have much better and more efficient effects in the long run. Overall, I only encourage the military further to utilize solar energy, and perhaps eventually the entire country will follow.
Military Goes Green
The following is a response to the article “ Green Initiatives Support Solar Energy-Savings Concept” by Donna Miles, which originally appeared in the SIRS Government Reporter. In the article, she tells of the military developments in using green energy sources to power Fort Hunter Liggett, California with a new solar micro grid. According to “Tad” Davis IV, command executive officer for the US Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., there are only benefits to using this type of energy. He explains how conserving resources manages to save money, which can be used for upgrading infrastructures and new facilities. He goes on to explain that the use of the net-zero energy aids in reducing impact on the environment. Newer green renovations are also being made to military facilities, such as new temperature control systems, water and natural gas meters, and even Hybrid military vehicles are being put in place, proving that the environment is important to the military.
